temporal effects

01/ VERSE

Temporal effects need time to exist at all. Every other effect here can be photographed. These cannot. Freeze one and you get an arbitrary instant that explains nothing, which is why these pages move and the others hold still.

02/ SPEC

Temporal effects change over time rather than mapping one input to one output, so a still frame of any of them is one arbitrary moment. kott's temporal family covers reaction-diffusion growth, falling glyph fields, frame-accumulating trails and echoes, slit scanning where the horizontal axis becomes time, drifting atmosphere and mechanical flap displays. Reach for this category when the artifact itself is a video or a loop rather than an image. Every page in this hub documents its effect with a short animated loop instead of the parameter sweep used elsewhere, because three stills of a time-based effect are either three unrelated moments or three identical frames.
